Installing DrywallSummer is finally here and it is the perfect time to add some finishing touches. There are a lot of fun and easy projects that you can either do yourself or hire Andy onCall to help you execute to freshen up the interior of your home. Then when winter arrives, you can sit back and enjoy all your hard work.

When deciding what projects to tackle first, focus on ones that will increase your property value, save money on your utility bills, and, add a smile to your face. Over the next couple of weeks we will be focusing on one area for an interior winter project. Our first project topic is your interior walls:

Create Walls That Wow

By updating the trim work, crown molding and/or adding a bold coat of paint you can completely change the look of a room without the expense of doing a complete renovation.

Select a bold color and paint an accent wall in your living room (or any room for that matter!). Or add dimension to a room by painting the ceiling.

It is now possible to paint in your home without opening up every window in a room, as long you use an environmentally friendly, waterborne paint, which has virtually no fumes. However, if you want to wait until the weather cools down the dryness of the colder months can actually produce faster results.

A new coat of paint simply makes a house look cleaner.

If you want to add visual interest to your walls, you could use painter’s tape to create stripes or patterns. Adding a chair rail with wallpaper below (or a different color paint), or simply hanging wallpaper adds new life to a room. But be forewarned, there is definitely an art to hanging wallpaper.

Another great project with excellent potential is right above you, so look up! Sprucing up the trim completely changes the look of the room, and it doesn’t have to be that expensive. This can be achieved by either painting the existing trim, adding trim where none exists, or changing the existing trim for something different, perhaps larger and bolder.

While you are looking up, consider coffered ceilings or even picture rails as a great ways to spice up a space, veering toward the dramatic.

Adding custom trim and crown molding, can make all the difference in the world in bringing some life back into a room. Don’t forget to look down, a popular trend right now is replacing typical baseboard with ones that are at least five inches tall.

As always if any of these ideas sound intriguing but a bit overwhelming or too time-consuming, call Andy onCall and we would be happy to take care of it for you. Summer is a great time for us as well as we can take the load off your shoulders while you are out and about enjoying this beautiful weather!
